Emotional Eating

If you are like me, trying to stay healthy, and maintain a certain weight can be a hassle sometimes. A lot of things can make you forget your goal of staying healthy, or having that conscious mindset of staying healthy, that you find yourself eating to feel good or to suppress whatever emotions you may be feeling at any particular time. For me I eat more when I have to do school work, or when I feel really stress about my finances. See now, just when I thought I got a good grip on this issue of emotional eating, something new hit me, and I decided to read more on it. I will be more than happy to share with you more what I discovered as I let the Holy Spirit take me through a teaching. There is such thing as overeating to fulfill sexual urge. yes You read it right, exactly what I just said. And in the Bible(Proverbs 23:2) overeating is considered a form of gluttony, which is ungodly, and it's no different from drunkenness. If I can explain further; according to the information ga

Be ware of Subtle Prejudice

Subtle prejudice is the worse kind that is very common in our everyday lives. We all have probably been guilty of it one way or another. we may have been partial and sometimes unfair, yet act like we really care about everyone/every race. This is not to point fingers at anyone in particular, however, it is to awaken the human race to an issue that has not only become prevalent on our football fields, where we are supposed to be teaching leaders of tomorrow,  to be fair, regardless of race and color, but has slowly walked its sneaky way into our churches. Why do we hold people back or ignore them when we feel they do not fit our standard, or the required standard of the crowd  on the field, or in the church? Allow me to pick on the church now, we ought to set the example that the world needs to follow, not the other way around. Oh no, don't think I exclude myself when I shine light on this issue, for I have probably been guilty of it as well.               We can turn t

"Zacchaeus"

How do you treat the Zacchaeus (es) that you come across daily? This would not be my first time reading about the story of our dear friend Zacchaeus and his encounter with our dear big brother and Lord Jesus, neither would it my first time reading through the book of Luke. However as I picked up my Bible to fulfill my commitment to God, I came to a “bulb light” moment in Luke 19: The lessons the Holy Spirit taught me; Zacchaeus though did not know Jesus, was eager to see Him. He just wanted a better view of Jesus (vs 3&4) Jesus saw a desperate man in need of love and acceptance. A man the world has deemed a “sinner” a misfit or did not deserve His audience (Vs 7). Jesus saw his desperation as an invitation to his heart, and asked to go to his home (vs 5). This is the “mind blower” for me;   Jesus did not have to say a word to Zacchaeus about how horrible He thought he was, or go by what others thought of him. All Jesus did was love on him. Jesus’ compassion was

Spiritual Detoxification

The importance of detoxification… Not just to your physical body now, but to your whole being. The Bible says in 1Timothy 4:8 that “for physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.” (NIV). For over a week now, I have had the opportunity to detoxify my body in other to get back on track with staying healthy. A few days into the detoxification, I started to notice changes that I really liked; having more energy, less stressed and more alert. The compliments about my glowing skin and ageless look were just off the wall. I must admit, it felt good to hear these wonderful things being said about me (hey, I’m human, lol). However, something that struck me was what would happen if, and when we do same for the inner being. See, before the entire quest for physical health, I had to journey down the path of inner cleansing. What do I mean by that? I’ll tell you; With all that I had gone th

“Life is like a Maze.”

Currently in my Counseling program we have all been challenged to adopt a spiritual discipline that we can commit to every day as we go on in the program. Now this challenge is to help us stay connected to God and not lose focus of who He is in our lives as we pursue a career in the helping profession. As professional helpers, we also reminded of the importance of self-awareness and self-care. So you can only imagine how big of a deal this is for me, that I keep God continuously at the top of my game. Anyways, I opted for a spiritual discipline that has somewhat been a real challenge for me, which is “silence.” You know, just being quiet before God and even people so you can really hear what is being said. And to be able to keep to this and not get burned out, I thought to go at it for 30mins every day before I do anything in the morning. Hey religious folks, don’t you dare begin to condemn me now, and question why I am giving God a time limit. Like I stated in the beginning, it’s

A Spectator or a Participant?

I do not know if there is anyone out there who does this, but for me everything and everyone I come in contact with speak to me in lots of ways that I can let my imagination run. My brother would often say to me, “can’t you just have fun in the little things in live and not have to find a lesson in them?” And I would laugh and say to him “that is my fun.” On that not I bring you this piece; as I glanced through my FB page; I came across a very well set Soccer stadium. Lo and behold as I admired the beautiful greenery and the empty seats, my mind took me on an unforgettable journey. I felt I was being reminded of the role we all choose to play in this life, or on this stage called “Life.” Here is the picture that came to mind, as the field suddenly becomes the stage of “Life.” Life as a stage, we have spectators, who sit on the side line either cheering others on, or criticizing them for doing something with their time, and then we have the actual participants who are the players

A prayer...

Prayer; Dear heavenly Father, I worship you for you are Jehovah Elohim, the creator God. The one who made the heavens and the earth, the mighty God who breathe His life into man, the creator who was never created, the one who spoke the world to be. I thank you for your grace and mercies towards your children, and thank you for your unfailing love.   Mighty Father, when I get a an opportunity to speak to people, and I hear what they say about the politics that go on in the churches today, or the dishonesty and misconduct amongst people who say they have been called by you, it really does break my heart. However Lord,   I pray for these ones that sometimes fall prey to dishonest ministers of the gospel, and also for those that do not have an understanding   of what it means to be easy on ministers you have assigned to be their cover. I pray Lord that we will learn to pray for those that you have assigned to lead us; I also pray especially for the congregation, that they will learn
