I have titled this post Identity, because that is what I really want to talk about today, especially as it pertains to our children, especially the young ones that are just beginning to find themselves, and are coming into their own. As someone who works with children ages 8-12, and sometimes 13yrs old, I see and hear a whole lot of things that bother me as a parent of an 8yrs old child, and sometimes these things, I must say, scare me to my very core, to the point that I have to remind myself of what the word of God says about how He’ll protect my offspring (Is 49:25). Parents, this is not to scare you, or cause your minds to worry, but to bring to your awareness that, making sure your children know and understand their identity in Christ, will help them a great deal as they step into the real world. Five loaves… Often times I have heard the story of the five loaves of bread and two fish being preached, and the message is always about our needs being met. And as I would read the story over and over, I believed the same thing, until this very day, when I had to read the passage again, and asked that they Holy Spirit not make it familiar to me, but open my understanding to get something new, and that, my friend, was what happened. You see, Jesus asking the disciples what they had, knew they really had nothing, but He wanted them to acknowledge that and come to Him empty handed, so that He could fill their hands up with all that they needed to reach out to the people. Dear Child of mine,   It’s me your Abba, I’m writing to you today to let you know how crazy in love I am with you. Does He Even Care? When the Lord saw her, He had compassion on her and said to her, “Do not weep.” Luke 7:13 Recommended Reading: Luke 7:11-17 Her tears blurred her vision. While we do not know if she saw Jesus, she did not reach out to Him: her son was dead and needed life. She knew Jesus was a healer but what could He do for her? In the midst of her grief, Jesus saw her and He had compassion. Instead of skipping to the happy end of this story, let’s stop here: Jesus had compassion.  This simple phrase is found throughout each of the Gospels. An integral part of Jesus’ character is His compassion. Sometimes we find it easier to pray for others than for ourselves. We subconsciously wonder, why would God help me? We forget Jesus’ compassion when we get stuck in this mindset. The life-changing truth is that Jesus is good and He encourages us to ask Him for help.         As we celebrate the freedom of the United States, let this be a time that we reflect on what Jesus did on the cross to make us free, and let us bask in that freedom, knowing that we are free indeed.   As my Pastor explained it on Sunday, when we use the word “sets free,” we are doing that sentence a disfavor, in that it takes away the mightiness or the weight of what God did for us (paraphrasing). You may say, but some Bible versions use that same phrase, you’re correct, because I thought the same too, but after he explained why that did not do the sentence justice (lol); I had to agree with him. He said, when you set a thing, or someone free, you are likely to catch them again, because you only release them for a certain amount of time, but when you make them free, they are completely free, nothing can ever stop them, or get to them.
